Protecting a PDF

In Protect PDF with Password, choose a PDF, enter and confirm a password, and decide whether printing and copying are allowed. Pixuna encrypts the file with AES-256 in your browser and gives you a new copy.

Use a long, unique password and store it somewhere safe. Pixuna cannot recover a forgotten password.

What protection does and does not do

A password stops people without it from opening the file in compliant viewers. The print and copy options are permission flags that well-behaved viewers respect; they are not a strong security boundary, and they do not protect a document once someone with the password has opened it.

Unlocking a PDF

Unlock PDF removes protection from a file when you enter the correct password. It cannot guess, crack, or bypass passwords, and it will not open a file without the right one. Use it only on documents you are allowed to open and change.

Side effects to know about

Both tools copy pages into a new document, so bookmarks and some interactive features may not be kept. Everything runs in your browser and the files are not uploaded.
