How to Add Page Numbers and Watermarks to a PDF

Stamp page numbers, a diagonal watermark, or a short text note onto PDF pages and understand what this does and does not do.

Page numbers

In Add Page Numbers to PDF, choose a position, a format such as 1, Page 1, or 1 of 10, and the starting number. You can leave the first page unnumbered so a cover page does not count.

The numbers are drawn onto each page in a standard font and cannot be edited afterward.

Watermarks and text notes

In Add Text & Watermark to PDF, enter your text and choose either a diagonal watermark or a note at a position. Adjust the font size, color, opacity, and the pages it applies to.

A watermark is a visual marker, such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL. It is not a security feature; anyone with PDF editing software may be able to remove it.

What it is not

This tool draws plain text. It does not create editable comments, highlights, or drawings, and it does not edit existing text. Only Latin letters, numbers, and common punctuation are supported because it uses a built-in font.

Privacy and checking the result

Both tools run in your browser and do not upload the PDF. Open the result before sharing it, and check rotated or unusually sized pages. Combine with Protect PDF if the document also needs a password.
