What pixel dimensions mean

Width is the number of pixels across an image; height is the number of pixels from top to bottom. A 1,080 × 1,080 image is square. A 1,920 × 1,080 image is landscape.

Pixel dimensions describe the image grid, not its physical print size. Print dimensions also depend on the output resolution chosen by the printer or document.

Keep the aspect ratio to avoid stretching

The aspect ratio is width divided by height. If you change width while preserving that ratio, height changes proportionally. This prevents circles from becoming ovals and faces from looking unnaturally wide or tall.

When both width and height are provided with Pixuna’s Keep aspect ratio option enabled, the tool fits the image inside those dimensions. The output may be smaller on one side to preserve the original proportions. Turn the option off only when stretching to fill every pixel is intentional.

Resize with Pixuna

Open Image Resizer, choose an image, and enter the target width or height. If you have a maximum box, enter both values and keep the aspect ratio enabled. Process the image and check its output dimensions before using it.

The tool initially suggests a width of 1,200 pixels. Replace that value if your destination requires a different size. Keep a copy of the original if you may need a larger version later.

When exact width and height are both mandatory

If the source aspect ratio differs from the target, there are two choices: stretch the image (which distorts it), or crop away part of it before resizing. Pixuna’s Crop & Rotate tool supports centered aspect-ratio crops; it does not currently offer a draggable crop frame.

After resizing, check the image at its intended display size. Upscaling does not recreate detail that was absent from the source, while reducing dimensions can discard detail permanently in the exported copy.
