Start with the file and task
Consider what the media contains, whether you have permission to submit it, and what the tool needs to do. A public product photo and a confidential identity document do not carry the same risk. If disclosure would be harmful, prefer an offline workflow you trust.
Check the specific operation rather than the site’s general homepage. An application may process images locally but upload videos, or use different paths for different formats.
Privacy checklist
Before choosing an online media tool, look for clear answers to these questions:
- Does the exact tool process in the browser, upload to a server, or use a hybrid workflow?
- If there is an upload, what are the input and output storage locations and how long is each retained?
- Does deletion include failed and abandoned jobs, and are logs, caches, backups, and third-party processors covered?
- Who can access the files, and what access controls are described?
- Does the site use HTTPS for the connection? Encryption in transit protects data while traveling but does not explain access or storage after arrival.
- Are required browser permissions relevant to the task, and are unexpected downloads or prompts avoided?
- Is the explanation current, specific to the feature, and clear about what is unknown?
Browser processing and uploads each have trade-offs
Browser processing can avoid sending the media to a processing API, but it uses local browser resources and depends on supported decoders and encoders. Remote processing can use server tools, but involves file transfer and requires confidence in the service’s handling practices.
A padlock icon or HTTPS connection only addresses transport encryption; it does not prove local processing, zero retention, or deletion from backups. Likewise, a privacy policy is useful information but is not independent verification of its operational implementation.
Pixuna’s current processing split
Pixuna’s Image Compressor, Resizer, Converter, Crop & Rotate, and Format Optimizer use browser image APIs. Pixuna’s video tools are temporarily unavailable while their processing service is paused.
The file-processing overview and full Privacy Policy describe the image workflow. Video tools can return after the processing service is ready to support them.
