Split or extract: which do you need?

Splitting produces several files from one PDF, for example one file per chapter. Extracting produces a single new PDF that contains only the pages you choose.

If you only need one subset, extraction is simpler. If you need many outputs, splitting packages them into a ZIP.

Writing page ranges

Pixuna uses page numbers starting at 1. Separate items with commas, use a dash for a range, and end with a dash to mean through the last page.

  • 1-3 selects pages 1, 2, and 3.
  • 1-3, 5 selects pages 1, 2, 3, and 5.
  • 8- selects page 8 through the end.
  • In Split PDF custom mode, each comma-separated range becomes its own file.

Using the tools

In Split PDF, choose every page, custom ranges, or a fixed number of pages per file. In Extract PDF Pages, enter the pages to keep.

Both tools work in your browser and do not upload the PDF. Multiple split results are downloaded as one ZIP file.

Things to keep in mind

New files are built by copying pages, so bookmarks and form fields are not guaranteed to survive. Encrypted PDFs need their password first. If the page numbers you enter fall outside the document, the tool tells you instead of guessing.
