A browser conversion workflow

A browser converter decodes a selected image on the device, draws or transforms its pixels with browser APIs, and encodes an output file. This does not require sending the image to a remote media-processing service.

Pixuna’s Image Converter uses an image element and canvas. The result is returned as a file that can be downloaded from the browser.

Select Image Converter, choose one or more images, pick an output format, and set quality if the selected encoder uses it. Start processing, then verify the downloaded file’s actual format, dimensions, transparency, and visual appearance.

Available choices include JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, HEIC, GIF, TIFF, and ICO. Browser support varies: if the browser does not emit the requested MIME type, Pixuna reports an error rather than silently giving the file a misleading extension.

Understand format and compatibility limitations

JPEG does not preserve alpha transparency. PNG is useful when transparency or exact pixel values matter. WebP and AVIF support depends on the browsers and applications that need to open the result. Conversion can also affect animation, metadata, profiles, color, or detail.

Local processing uses the device’s memory and browser codecs. Very large files may exceed available resources, and an output type offered by a tool may not be supported by every browser. Keep the original until the exported file is confirmed.

Privacy boundaries

This article describes the image conversion code, not every request made by a website or browser. Browser-based processing of an image does not mean that every request made by a website or browser is local.
